The textile-like structure is made up of interlocking parts which are built up layer by layer using FDM 3D printers. Each segment can move individually allowing the material to flow. By using parametric tools the structure can be programmed to be more or less flexible in certain areas which allows for more or less movement. These attributes could be used in areas like protective gear or ergonomics were both flexibility and rigidity are needed.
